| We're migrating a server to ASE 12.5.1 on a new Sun box, running Solaris 9. We're tempted to create the ASE database devices in a Journaled File System (on Logical Volume Manager "TransMeta" devices). Is anyone successfully running with their databases on JFS? Anyone have a compelling argument against such a plan? Sybase Tech Support's response was (I think) a bit short of a whole-hearted endorsement: "Sybase doesn't have certification with JFS, you should check with the vendor for the JFS to see if they certify against Sybase. What I can tell you is that we do have customers successfully use ASE with JFS." Which I interpret as, <paraphrase> It will probably work, but we don't guarantee it. </paraphrase> Is that a fair characterization? |
