Default Oracle 8i connectivity Problem.

Dear Members,

I M working on window98 SE operating system.

I had installed Personal Oracle 8.0.4 for win98 on my home computer.
I had also installed Developer 2000 ver 6.0 on the same computer.

Due to limitation on creating saperate datafile on oracle 8. I switched
over to oracle 8i and installed oracle 8i in saperate home and
directory.

now my D2K is installed in c:\orawin95
and Oracle 8i DB is installed in c:\ora8i (saperate directory as asked
for during installation)

I worked with this environment for quiet some time. and it was working
fine.

due to some reason I had to reinstall D2K on the same machine. Now I M
unable to connect to oracle 8i database.

Oracle 8i database is getting connected thru TOAD, but I M unable to
connect thru forms 6.0 or reports 6.0.

I would be highly obliged if some one can clarify where I M going
wrong.

thanks in advance..

Kishan Thakker

You go wrong by assuming your problem is unique and you don't need to
search the archives, as it can't be a FAQ.
Actually it is a FAQ, and it has been answered hundreds of times.
Question: why do you want to continue with this desupported software?

Dear Bakker,

Thanx for enlightning me on the subject, and understanding my problem.
But every problem is unique for the end user till he/she finds out that
some one else has faced such problem.

I would be highly obliged if you could help me with the location where
I can find the FAQ.

thnx in advance .

regards

Kishan Thakker

Dear Thakker

Thank you for being rude by using my last name only.
You are aware you can actually search the archives of this group?
Do I really need to spell it out for you?

No regards at all

I found a few suggestions. Some of them say uninstall everything, install
developer, then the database. I would suggest you back up your drive
before you start.

Now come on.
First there is the possibility that his or her English is bad, which
is not rudeness.
Then you should bear in mind that in many cultures it is customary to write
the 'last name' first.

No need - just reverse the orawin95 and ora8i in your path.

Dear Sybrand,

I am extreamly sorry if I have offended you by using your last name....
And I was not aware how to search the archive.... belive me.
Mr John Koller have given some links by searching this archive I
suppose.
I got some of your valued post in this Links.
You are really doing a good job and I appreciate your efforts from
bottom of my heart.

Once again I would like to request you to help me because from the
available solution I tried to reinstall d2k first by clearing
everything from hard disk and registry . Then installed oracle 8i ver
8.1.x.x. but connectivity is still not established.

How should I configure Listener (if at all required).
How should I configure Net8 connectivity.
