/etc/init.d/postgresql start returned 1 (unspecified error):
Initializing the PostgreSQL database at location /var/lib/pgsql/dataYou can find a log of the initialisation in ~postgres/initlog .

A few things:

1. Running /etc/init.d/postgresql start as root?
2. su - postgres; less initlog (see whats in there, paste if u see
errors)

If you can find errors, paste the log on a pastebin site and send to me
to look further, or somebody else.
