Description: could not connect to database postgres

This is to inform you that i have installed postgres version 8.1.4 on my
system and on creating a databes i am giving the command


C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.1\bin>createdb mydb
Password:
createdb: could not connect to database postgres: FATAL: password
authenticatio
n failed for user "rajat"

please advice me what and how should i proceed?i have given the above
command in the command prompt which is there in PostgreSQL
installalation.Please advice me fast.
