For my example, shockwave is involved as well, so perhaps I haven't
correctly identified the problem as flash 7 vs flash 8...

Flash 7 is supported on SOlaris, both SPARC & x86. I've not come across
a site yet that demanded Flash 8.

Well, I wouldn't call it the best thing on the Internet, but it
plays just fine here, on my Ultra 20 running build 33 of Nevada,
the Mozilla that comes with that, and the latest Flash 7.

Well... when I first posted, I was using this:

bonnieblue# ls -l ./install_flash_player_7_solaris.old/libflashplayer.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 1002 other 2242324 Aug 27 2004 ./install_flash_player_7_solaris.old/libflashplayer.so


.... so I looked, and found that what macromedia's got for download now is
different:

bonnieblue# ls -l ./install_flash_player_7_solaris/libflashplayer.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 hubcap other 2229288 Oct 25 05:11 ./install_flash_player_7_solaris/libflashplayer.so


So I tried it with that. No different, it's all blurry and jerky. I've
got solaris 9 on a sunblade 100, and firefox 1.5...

Maybe it's blurry and jerky for y'all too, and you don't have anything
to compare it to, given that you haven't seen it elsewhere.

I loke you Rich but the arrogance so say that because you have to come
across a site that demands flash 8 only shows that you are living in a
sand box, thats fine of you are doing RTOS stuff

To have a alive and happy users you must have the proper support to surf
and others tools, thats exactly why I can run a shop that run Solaris to
design HW/ASIC and have happy employes.

So, I hope that so pushes for flash 8 BUT even more important U45 on
S8/S9 Casper and other Sun folks !!!

No arrogance intended. I don't look at a huge number of sites that use
Flash, and I've not needed anything newer than Flash 7. Of course, YMMV.

Why not push the software vendors to qualify their stuff on S10? If
their SW is written correctly, it should "just work".

I wouldn't expect much from a SB100

OTOH, I was pleasantly surprised that my SB100, Solaris 10, FF 1.5
was able to play www.pandora.com... and even more surprised when
I plugged in headphones (instead of the internal speakers) and
the site really ROCKS! :-)

I wrote about on this to, it is not that easy since older version of
tools that you are using is not and will not be qualified.

For instance atleast some of the tools used in Airbus is on S8 and only
S8, So is most likely the tools used for Niagara, Ultrasparc IIIi+ and
more so they can't use there own Sparc WS anymore
