It will be available this Summer - doubtless I'll make an announcement here and comp.unix.programmer - and yes, it will be on the Sun Microsystems Press label. -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc. I'm looking forward to this one! Will it be aimed at Solaris 9 or 10? I guess the summer timeframe is when 10 is to be let out of the barn, so I was wondering if your book will include topics like dtrace, etc. Thanks, Dave |

I guess the summer timeframe is when 10 is to be I cover stuff up to (and including) Solaris 9 12/02, which unfortuanely means that goodies like libumem and stuff in S10 had to be left out. One of the problems with writing a book like this is that you have to draw the line somewhere, otherwise it'll never be finished! I did try to squeeze in a mention about libumem, but it's not a small subject that could be covered in a page or two. Rather than covering it poorly, I decided to leave it out. Besides, I need to save something for the 2nd and subsequent editions. :-) > let out of the barn, so I was wondering if your book will include S10 still hasn't started its Beta program, so judging by the length of the S9 Beta, S10 won't hit FCS until nearly the end of this year. So S9 will be the "current" release when my book hits the streets, which is nice considering how long it's taken me to write (about 3 years)! > topics like dtrace, etc. Alas no, for the reasons above. -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc. Speaking of Solaris 10, current sun systems news (posted at comp.sys.sun.announce) and available from http://sun.systemnews.com/, has an interesting entry for Solaris 10 (item SN#12269): Sun previewed the Solaris[TM] 10 Operating System (Solaris OS), the upcoming version of its OS to be available later this year for systems based on x86 UltraSPARC[R] microprocessors. I wonder what that x86 UltraSPARC[R] microprocessor is they are talking about :-) You can check the fill article at http://sun.systemnews.com/72/2/news/index.shtml#12269 Bye, Dragan -- Dragan Cvetkovic, To be or not to be is true. There will be a book web site with an Errata section, but don't plan to have an update section at this stage. -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc. I suggest that interested people wait until availability is officially announced - which won't be too far away now, as I have just (yesterday) finished the final draft! :-) -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc.
