| Typically, D1000 JBOD (just a bunch of disks) arrays are used off an A3000/A3500 RAID controller. However, I find myself with several A1000s RAID arrays. Can they be configured as a set "individual" disks (JBOD), and then connected to the A3000/A3500 system in the same manner as the D1000 array? I would think so, but I have not found where it is specifically stated as yes or no anyplace. |

| The more I read up on these, the less likely it seems that this is a viable course. There are D1000->A1000 upgrade components, but the reverse is not offered (as there is usually little reason for doing this), so one would have to purchase or scrounge parts. One reason I was thinking of looking into it was the cost of the memory cache batteries. If the A1000s could be made "dumb", then they would not need new cache batteries (at $2-400 each). The A3000 battery is available at a far less price ( $125), and I would need only one. Oh well...... |
