Glossed thread and thought you were simply wanting a default command line editor; not cli history. Unfortunately pompous rhetoric, a.k.a., the occassional flame of some degree, is also apart of USENET. Seems like another parting gift of this thread is to watch what you say and how you say it. Anyway, as the other posters mentioned you'll have to use another shell. Ksh or Bash will help. |

While my reply was just plain wrong for what he wanted - "Can anyone help me with setting up my command line to use vi in /sbin/sh? I know the set -o vi on the ksh but the set command in the sh doesnt seem to do it for Solaris 8." - it was technically accurate and certainly posed no danger to his system's well-being. |

It is funny how a few words can evoke so much emotion. Cheers, |

Then come out with 'em blazing ;^) The exchange of knowledge and experience is a noble thing in life. But you have to realise that Usenet junkies have strange attention spans and modes. WRT top posting, if they see your comment and immediately disagree with it, they will not trawl through the rest of the previous post(s) to find out why you got it wrong - they will just mentally diss and ignore it. Then the information-flow stops. Techies are indeed often shy, but also are very proud in their knowledge. They *will* post, as they enjoy proving others "misguided". Don't be afraid - the truth *is* out there ;-) "And if it is not, then I am wrong." - Xfiles Alligator Man (the best...) |
