I did that, and am still getting the box mac addresses assigned to all
the qe ports.

Not all ethernet cards have local MACs to use, if the qe card is one
of them then you'll have to assign it addresses manually.

That does give the ports their own MAC addresses, only allows them to
have their own MAC addresses.
