| Hi all, Is it possible to turn off visibility of ide hard disk at OBP level, so solaris cannot see it? Why do I need it? I've decided to add a secondary ide disk to my Sun Blade 150 to install there gentoo and play around with it. It works good (starts up from secondary master). I though it would be good to start solaris (installed on primary master) from silo. So I have configured silo, but it looks that solaris will not start up until I disconnect ide cable from gentto disk! Otherwise it complaints about gentoo disk: "corrupt label - bad geometry" it panics and resets. Why the hell it cares for this disk? I don't want to disconnect ide cable every time I want to boot into solaris, it is stupid. I tought about deleting disk2 alias from OBP, but I don't know what would be the impact on ide bus. Or maybe there is more elegant way to accomplish this? -- Greetings Tomasz Rojek |

Statements on Sun products included here are not gospel and may be fiction rather than truth. |

Mhm... I did not notice, cause the screens flowed to fast on the monitor. I do not have possibility to connect via console port. For sure there was a problem with the numbers of sectors. -- Greetings Tomasz Rojek |

Another problem is that your Gentoo disk is most likely formatted with a DOS type partition table. Boot from CDROM and use either Solaris format or Linux fdisk to install a BSD style disk label, then re-slice the disk and re-install Linux. |

And gentoo instalation manual says: to use disk in sun hardware you must format it with sun disk label, see http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handboo...ap=4#doc_chap3 -- Greetings Tomasz Rojek |

Try: boot kadb which will cause the system to stop in the in the kernel debugger when it panics. Are you up to date with patches? Casper |

I gave up - after a called SUN service I was told that in SB 150 2 IDE disks must be exaclty the same vendor, type and size to boot solaris properly. Otherwise it may panic > Are you up to date with patches? Yes, the latest recommended patch cluster is installed. Thanks anyway. -- Greetings Tomasz Rojek |

I've got two SB 100's that each have a 40 GB and a 20 GB drive, and they run fine. They have *never* paniced. There is very little difference between the 100 and the 150. -- Jeff Wieland |
