| Hello! We have seen on several occasions that the lpfc instance number gets renamed during boot. This of course leads to the renaming of the controller number for the disks, so that cxt0d0 is changed to cyt0d0. We have seen this on several servers, all running Solaris 8, but with different patch levels. They all use the Emulex driver (we use Emulex HBAs) and the storage itself is EMC Symmetrix. Also, the problem is not reproducible all the time. It can happen to a server once in a while, and then "never" again, or it can happen again after several normal reboots. The guys here are not sure if it has only happended during a "boot -r" or if it has happened even during a normal boot. Nevertheless this shouldn't be possible. Has anyone seen this behaviour? Does anyone have the solution to this? Many thanks in advance! -- ---J.T.U. |

| It appears like your /etc/path_to_inst gets changed for whatever reason. This usually indicates that more than one person is administering the system and you will need to carefully log changes that are being made. |
