| Please help. I have a Java Workstation W2100z and the Mouse is "stuttering"...typically around hard drive reads/writes. If you know what the problem is, please let me know. I found something at SunSolve's web-site that seems to describe the problem but the full detail is protected. I'd very much appreciate it if someone would mail to me what it says: silktaco@yahoo.com. The ticket is 82245 and here is the description: Sun Java[TM] Workstation W1100z/SLES9: Keyboard and Mouse Stutter | .... 82245 SRDB Sun Java[TM] Workstation W1100z/SLES9: Keyboard and Mouse Stutter Sun Java[TM] Workstation W1100z/SLES9: Keyboard and Mouse Stutter en Mon Jul 25 00 ... 00 MST 2006 Sun Java Workstation W1100z Sun Java Workstation W2100z Mouse Keyboard Firmware Linux Copyright © 2006 ... 01-19 Sun Java[TM] Workstation W1100z/SLES9: Keyboard and Mouse Stutter 2005-11-24 82245 Michael ... That way, you'd have access to all the Sunsolve goodies... -- Rich Teer, SCSA, SCNA, SCSECA, OpenSolaris CAB member President, Rite Online Inc. Some of us would rather walk to the service station than commit theft! Nor do we care to associate with thieves! If you had simply described your problem and asked for help with it someone might have told you to apply a patch or modify a configuration file or whatever the solution is. The service contract that will get you full access to Sunsolve is $140 per CPU per year. The software is free. Support costs money. Sun has to make money somehow and that is the business model they have chosen. Learn to live with it or learn to live with your problems! |

The problem I have is that the mouse stutters around HD access and itermittently. I'd like to know what the ticket says the solution is. Since I've applied all of the various patches that are available through sunSolve (all freely downloadable) and scanned the forum database without luck, I either need to clear the CMOS, apply a special bios patch, upgrade the adaptec SCSI firmware or apply an OS patch. Come to think of it, everything at sunsolve is freely available...except this one ticket and phone support. I don't need phone support, technical support or the like, I just need some kind soul out there who is willing to help a student tell me what the solution described in the ticket is. |

Is 2.5 the latest (most current) version of the BIOS for the W2100z? -- Rich Teer, SCSA, SCNA, SCSECA, OpenSolaris CAB member President, Rite Online Inc. If you installed BIOS version R01-B5 S1 off Supplemental CD 2.5, then this should have resolved the problem. Make sure the flash actually took or flash it again. Otherwise there may be some other problem with the machine. The document you referenced claims the issue is totally BIOS related and is resolved with a BIOS upgrade. Before the fix came out for the BIOS the workaround was to replace all the fans. Trinean |

Sun came out twice to replace the fan, but then this problem cropped up after I wrote in supplemental 2.4. Will try to flash again and go from there. |

Its about a SuSe 9 Linux problem on a W1100z where every 10 seconds stuttering happens. The solution was to use Supplemental ISO 2.2 to upgrade the BIOS. Doubt this will help you as you appear to be at 2.5 on a W2100z ... |

But we can ask, 'Why', can't we? Why *should* people have to pay to find out why their mouse stutters? This is a product Sun have sold. It's in free circulation. Shouldn't the technical information on that product be freely available? -- Tom Tobin. |
