Some know what they are talking about and some haven't a clue! Be sure you understand what you are being told! Read and understand the documentation! READ and UNDERSTAND the documentation!! Whatever else you do or don't do, make a backup of your boot disk. It's good practice to back up the entire system. Make two copies and send one off site. 99% of upgrades are done without problems. The other 1% can cost your your job and any hope of getting good references! If an upgrade goes wrong, you have a backup. and are able to restore it, the only harm done is that you have wasted some time. If you have never done an upgrade before, try to get someone who has to help you. |

I would throw in the recommendation to practice on a test system that as closely resembles the system he intends to upgrade. Josh |

If you have a test system, upgrade it first. That should tell you a lot about the problems you may encounter when you upgrade your production system. Ideally, the test system will run on similar but perhaps slower hardware. This is one of many good reasons to have such a test system. |

Just start a standard Solaris install and at some point it will ask you whether you want to do an upgrade (if your OS is not damaged beyond recognition) >People said to erase all the mirror (disksuite). Solaris 10 upgrades support mirrors. >People said to install all the reccomended patch under solaris 8 and then >migrate. That's only required for liveupgrade. Ordinary upgrade does not care about the patchlevel of the system. Casper -- Expressed in this posting are my opinions. They are in no way related to opinions held by my employer, Sun Microsystems.
