| I'm trying to live upgrade my Sun Blade 1000 running B33 to B40 but I'm running into problems. First I find myself embarrassed for blank DVD's until tomorrow so I have to use lofiadm. Shouldn't be a prob tho..... I can create the new boot environment, but I cannot upgrade, I get this error: # luupgrade -u -n sol110606 -s /upgrade/ Validating the contents of the media </upgrade/>. The media is a standard Solaris media. The media contains an operating system upgrade image. The media contains <Solaris> version <11>. Constructing upgrade profile to use. Locating the operating system upgrade program. Checking for existence of previously scheduled Live Upgrade requests. Creating upgrade profile for BE <sol110606>. Determining packages to install or upgrade for BE <sol110606>. /usr/sbin/luupgrade: /upgrade//Solaris_11/Tools/Boot/usr/sbin/install.d/parse_dynamic_clustertoc: cannot execute ERROR: Unable to parse software table of contents. # Problem files exists of course: # ls -l /upgrade/Solaris_11/Tools/Boot/usr/sbin/install.d/parse_dynamic_clustertoc -r-xr-xr-x 1 root sys 4040 May 12 09:22 /upgrade/Solaris_11/Tools/Boot/usr/sbin/install.d/parse_dynamic_clustertoc # Any guidance apart from don't be so bleeding cutting edge! Did you do this? I.e. execute: $ /cdrom/sol_10_106_sparc/s0/Solaris_10/Tools/Installers/liveupgrade20 HTH, Tom |

However on trying the run this installer I'm getting a 'cannot execute binary file error' I'm beginning to think my DVD image is corrupted or lofiadm is mounting it wrongly or with weird perms or something. And I forgot to pick up some DVD-R's from the shop! Arggghhh!! Steve |

| Hi Steve, I make a mini how-to of LiveUpgrade, is in spanish but it is not difficult. I'm wondering if it's becuase lofiadm doesn't mount the DVD slices like vold does, ie I'm used to seeing S0 to S6 IIRC. In fact, I've just inserted my Sol100106 DVD and the liveupgrade installer is a shell script not data as it seems to be on sol110606, so either I have corruption or lofiadm is playing sily beggars. On the 'net there are multiple description how one can extract the other slices. But it is way easier to write the image to a dvd and insert it into a drive. e.g. look here: http://www.petertribble.co.uk/Solaris/isosetup.html > In fact, I've just inserted my Sol100106 DVD and the liveupgrade > installer is a shell script not data as it seems to be on sol110606, so > either I have corruption or lofiadm is playing sily beggars. > > Steve > > Good luck, Tom |

Still didn't work tho! I am now restocked with blank DVD-R's so I'm trying it that way. If it works it does seem lofiadm is mi-mounting the iso incorrectly. Steve |

| Right, firstly it WAS a corrupted download, fist I've ever had. Live and learn! Redownloaded, mounted as iso with lofiadm, upgraded live update to b40 version on DVD, bad move, got out of memory errors when allocating slices for the new BE. So I downgrade LU to b33 and no problems whatsoever, went like a dream! Thanks for the help guys!! Steve |
