This statement is incorrect. Please explain why you think tape backups
are handled by Solaris Volume Manager - you're misinterpreting something
somewhere.

Hello, John Z.:

Are you thinking of Veritas Netbackup?
In the old days, the Sun Volume Manager used to be called
Veritas Volume Manager.

To make things more complicated, Veritas Netbackup
had a component (the media manager) that used to be called
volume manager.

Does this help at all?

I thought it was On-Line Disk Suite. Where did you get this idea?
VxVM is still very much available for Solaris SPARC and completely
different from SVM.
