If it happens more than only occasionally and to the same disk, replace
the disk. It's on it's way out.

Looks like a Sun E450 system. Old but good, and very quiet.

There might be a dead SCSI device, or a cable may have become partly
un-connected somewhere. Have you looked at the obvious phyiscal things
including cabling, etc.?

The problem is in one of the hard disk drives, which use the SCSI
interface to communicate with the computer.

In these messages, the disk drive is identified as "ssd23", but I
don't know to figure out which of the disks in the computer (or in
an external chassis) is ssd23.

The three messages you posted suggest a SCSI command was sent to
disk ssd23 by the SCSI controller chip, there was no response from
the disk (timeout), the controller re-tried the command several times
with no luck (abort), and then told the disk to reset itself because
of the lack of communication (reset).

This group of messages is often seen together when a disk has a
problem, but your response depends on how often these reports appear
in the logfiles.

If the reports happen rarely, then you probably don't have to worry
about the disk. If they happen all the time, then the disk is dying
and you need to take action immediately to save the data and replace
the disk. If it's somewhere in between rarely and all the time, then
respond appropriately.

The importance of the data on that disk will also affect how you respond.
More important means your response is more urgent.
