| How is Sun delivering more value by integrating critical features such as avaliability, manageability, security, network and Web services into every system? This whitepaper describes how we are: - Offering Solaris OS for both UltraSPARC and x86-based systems - embracing Linux as an open standard and offering it for x86-based systems - adding Sun ONE middleware products to both Solaris and Linux platforms - providing worldwide support and services - creating scalable platforms for network computing with freedom of choice built in You can view this and other whitepapers at: http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris....html?ssobm=ng |

Oh, please do. I'm sure abuse@sun.com could use a good laugh. Me? I've already had a good chuckle... Hint: it's on target for the groups posted, it's posted to just 5 groups, and it's posted only once. Thus a BI=2.4. HTH. HAND. Maybe the topicality in comp.os.linux is dubious, but it's appropriate for the sun groups. -SEan |

I can't see how this posting can be considered as SPAM, and it's not off-Topic on Sun newsgroups. If You don't like it You are free to filter... Benjamin |

Does this include me, Casper, Alan, Tony and all the other Sun employees who post thousands and thousands of messages to various newsgroups each year - almost every one a response to someone problem or question? The occasional post pointing to a whitepaper on Sun's website which will be of use to many of the readers of this newsgroup most certainly isn't SPAM. Scott. |

| As a point of interest, I think saying that Solaris x86 and Linux (x86) have the same number of commercial applications is a bit of a stretch (the paper lists 1,000 for both). I don't know if the number should be higher or lower for Linux, but I would make the supposition that certainly the number for Linux should be significantly higher than Solaris x86. I think it's yet another example of Sun both promoting (embracing) and deriding Linux in the same breath. And for my $.02, I think these posts are on-topic, but don't be surprised if they initiate responses such as mine. Funny, I would "suppose" it would be the other way around. Solaris x86 has been a commercially targetted OS for longer than linux has been. They are approximately the same age in a lot of ways, but linux was a pure "hobbyist's OS" for at least half that time. Now lets see some numbers from you, if you wish to refute my view. -- http://www.blastwave.org/ for solaris pre-packaged binaries with pkg-get Organized by the author of pkg-get [Trim the no-bots from my address to reply to me by email!] S.1618 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquer...5:SN01618:@@@D http://www.spamlaws.com/state/ca1.html |
