DUMP: Level 0 dump on Fri 28 Nov 2003 08:33:08 PM EST

I am puzzled by the messages "finished in 1:08", "finished in 0:56",
....
I don't know the unit of the time here.
If 1:08 means 1 hour and 8 minutes, then it is too long, the process
had finished already.
If 1:08 means 1 minute and 8 seconds, then it is too short, more than
5 minutes had passed before another message appeared.
How to interpret the "finished in 1:08", "finished in 0:56", ...?

That's 1 hour and 8 minutes.

The time is an estimate. A new estimate is given at 10 minute
intervals until it is done.

It doesn't look too far off from here.

Maybe you saw the message well after it was first displayed.

DUMP: 12.76% done, finished in 1:08
DUMP: 26.00% done, finished in 0:56
DUMP: 39.24% done, finished in 0:46
DUMP: 52.48% done, finished in 0:36

Interpretation:
All the numbers are estimates.
The 1:08 means 12.76% is done in 1 hour and 8 minutes.
the 0:56 means 26.00% is done in 0 hour and 56 minutes.
the 0:46 means 39.24% is done in 0 hour and 46 minutes.
....
As time goes on, the estimate become more accurate.
