Are you sure to use the correct CD ? sometime I also get confused about the cd to use and if not bootable, it gives error I don't remember. can you replace the cdrom reader ? CU Zoot |

| Hello zoot, thanks for your answer. I tryed more than one cd; in particular: 2 cdrom original from sun (solaris 2.5.1) 1 cd rom with solaris 8 (the one I used to install the system long time ago). I also tryed to replace the cdrom reader but I was not able to make it work Do not rememeber the error, but it was diffrent from "Cant' open boot device" and searching the net resulted in some incompatibility stuff of the reader. I'm also searching for a new original solaris 7 we should have here in the office but still can't find thanks again. zoot ha scritto: > cato wrote: > > Hi all, > > I'm trying to use a sparc ultra 5 (ide interface) but I'm not able to > > start it from the > > cdrom. > > I've read a lot of related stuff on the net, but unfortunately nothing > > worked for me. > > Can anyone help me please ? > > > > thanks in advance > > Alberto > > > > Hereafter some infomation usefull to detect where the problem is > > > > reset-all > > ok > > > > ok probe-ide > > Device 0 ( Primary Master ) > > ATA Model: ST34342A > > > > Device 1 ( Primary Slave ) > > ATA Model: QUANTUM FIREBALLP AS20.5 > > > > Device 2 ( Secondary Master ) > > Removable ATAPI Model: CRD-8240B > > > > Device 3 ( Secondary Slave ) > > Removable ATAPI Model: yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy > > > > ok devalias cdrom > > cdrom /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/cdrom@2,0:f > > > > These are the settings. > > Obvioulsy something is wrong with the device 3 (secondary slave which > > is empty) > > but I cant't figure out how to fix it. > > > > When I put a disk in the cdrom driver I got the following message: > > the first time I get: > > ok boot cdrom > > Boot devices: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/cdrom@2,0:f > > Can't read disk label. > > Cant'open disk label package > > > > ok > > > > The if I use the same command again I get: > > ok boot cdrom > > Boot devices: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/cdrom@2,0:f > > Can't open boot device > > > > ok > > At first I would say you have either a broken CDRM reader or a bad CD? > is the cdrom the original or a copy ? > Are you sure to use the correct CD ? sometime I also get confused about > the cd to use and if not bootable, it gives error I don't remember. > can you replace the cdrom reader ? > CU > Zoot |

The last time I had a problem like this, I found that the ribbon cable connector was not completely inserted in the socket on the mother board. Check both ends of the cable. If that doesn't help, try a new cable. Or test your drive and cable in another machine. |

It allows the reader to see comments in the order that they were written. It is also net custom to trim the quoted material but leave enough for the reader to get the context. |
