Default VXVM 3.5 Fast Resync Option?

I was replacing a disk on a Solaris 9 system running VxVM 3.5 and
noticed something I have never seen before. (however this is the first
time I used vxdiskadm to remove failed disk then replace failed disk)
I normally do all the commands manually. This was the rootdisk which
was mirrored on another disk in the same disk group. Anyway, the
option I never noticed before is this:

Use fastresync for plex synchronization? [y,n,q,?] (default: n)

What exactly is this? Why woundn't this always be the desired
behavior?

Thx for any info,
-chuck
