Default What does Lun Host Type Specify?

When working with SAN Luns on solaris hosts, most SANs have the option
to specify the host type the Lun will be used by. (now days we have
heterogenious Luns) What exactly does this host type mean? (what
exactly is this option controlling)

For example, on an IBM FastT 700, you create a lun and must specify the
host type during the lun mapping phase. If this is changed, it will
destroy the Lun. Does anyone know why?

Thx,
CC
