| I do not have access to pre-Solaris 7 OS's right now but am writing some tools to support those platforms as well. Can anyone tell me what 'uname -r' shows for any Solaris platforms prior to 2.7. Thx, CC |

ITYM "7" there. Solaris 2.6 - uname -r is "5.6" Solaris 2.5.1 - uname -r is "5.5.1" Solaris 2.5 - uname -r is "5.5" See a pattern emerging? :-) |

Any Solaris 2.4 machine running? That was my first encounter with Solaris (was on SunOS before that). Bye, Dragan -- Dragan Cvetkovic, To be or not to be is true. G. Boole No it isn't. L. E. J. But I imagine Tony, like most people here, knows the relatinship between the Solaris release name and the SunOS version number that goes with it. > 2.4 machine running? In fact, I just recently won an auction for a new, unopened, copy of Solaris 1.1.2. :-) -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc. Voice: +1 (250) 979-1638 URL: http://www.rite-online.net |

We have all sorts of stuff sitting gently gathering dust in labs. In fact the latest bootable image I have easy access to would be 2.5.1 FCS, though if I dig about enough I could probably find a 2.0 CDROM somewhere in the depths of a library. I happen to remember that for Solaris 2.x (3<=x<=6) uname -r returned 5.x (in fact I *think* that holds true for Solaris as far back as 2.0) - the result of uname -r is the SunOS release, which is less influenced by marketing considerations than is the Solaris name. > Any Solaris 2.4 machine running? And I'm still running the same olvwm binary that I compiled on that release, on a release *much* later than 2.3 :-) -- Tony |

Last time I looked, I think 2.4 was still supported, so I certainly *hope* they have some 2.4 machines! (I'd bet (very) small money that they have some special-case expensive contracts causing them to keep OSs older than that too...) --tim |

I think we've still got a Sparc 10 in our lab running Solaris 2.2 - well, "running" may be a bit of a strech - it's installed, but I don't think we've bothered plugging it in since moving into the new lab 2 1/2 years ago, so it may not actually run anymore. -- __________________________________________________ ______________________ Alan Coopersmith alanc@alum.calberkeley.org http://www.CSUA.Berkeley.EDU/~alanc/ aka: Alan.Coopersmith@Sun.COM Working for, but definitely not speaking for, Sun Microsystems, Inc. |
