Default Configuration and usage of high performance loader in SAP

Hi Chris, hi Richard,

these tables are near 16 million pages and need to be reorganized.
Main problem is the time available to do this, because this customer
has 24*7 and only 4 hours to take the action.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

An alternative, if you have the disk space, is ALTER TABLE .... FRAGMENT.
This has the advantage of being instantly cannable, so no chance of
over-running your allocated downtime.

Torsten, please give details about your hardware,
operating system, I/O devices and IDS version.

On modern disks and fast CPUs on a multi CPU machine
you can
use more than 1 HPL unload & load stream in parallel
expect to reorg 1 GB (=500.000 pages) per minute.

Without knowing any details about your hardware I cannot
even tell you what & how you should benchmark beforehand

Did you see the SAP reorg paper in the library? It
deals about problems of your type.

Trosten,

Regd. env. variable - Don't remember exactly but I don't think you
need any env. variable/onconfig change.

Also, as advised by Neil, a good alternative to reorg. Think on that
direction as well, if you wish. Its a good way. Long time ago, I
downloaded a beautiful piece of shell script (reorg.sh), developed by
some Informix guru and posted either on newsgroup or in archives. I
have used that script to reorg table with more than 8M rows (about 1M
pages), no prob. at all. Pl. let me know if you need that script.
