Stored procedures were introduced in OnLine 5.00; triggers in 5.01. You should probably not be using a version of OnLine prior to 5.10; such systems are certainly not guaranteed to be Y2K-compliant. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2005.02 -- http://dbi.perl.org/ |

The reasoning behind the version naming is mildly complex. Informix - the non-SQL product (and also the only product to include an executable called informix) - reached version 3.30. Informix-SQL 1.10 was released - 1985. Informix-SQL 2.00 and Informix-4GL 1.00 were released - 1986. ISQL 2.10 and I4GL 1.10 were released - late 1986 or 1987. Releasing ISQL 3.00 next would have caused confusion with Informix 3.x (which was only a couple of years out of date and still very much in use). Hence, ISQL 2.10.03 and I4GL 1.10.03 were released, and they (still) came with sqlexec (which became SE) as standard, but could also work with Turbo 1.10.03 - released at the same time, more or less. IIRC, I4GL-RDS and I4GL-ID were also introduced at this release. I think the release date was 1987, but I'm working from (hazy) memory here; it might have been 1988. Finally, there was the great synchronizing release: ISQL 4.00 I4GL 4.00 OnLine 4.00 SE 4.00 (At some stage, there was also an ISQL 2.10.06 for Windows (or was it DOS?), and the corresponding I4GL 1.10.06 too; the x.10.03 releases were for Unix-related platforms - and possibly VMS.) The distinguishing characteristics of OnLine compared with Turbo did include the fact that coherent backups can be made while changes are occurring to the data stored in the server. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2005.02 -- http://dbi.perl.org/ |
