Default File System Backup....

Hi,

Looking for advice on a file system backup of our IFX servers.

We have noticed that system performance goes in the dumper when we are
performing a daily file system backup.

We are currently using cipo for this task.

Is there a better 3rd party tool that you folks have experience with, and,
that seems to mitigate this problem?

Any other suggestions or advice?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Tam.

tar? I'm a bit curious why performance should suck when running an OS
backup ... possibly your tape drive isn't setup correctly?

Additional questions:
- Are your Informix dbspaces in raw devices or cooked files? If cooked
files, in which type of filesystem are they places (ext2,
ext3,Reiser,...)?
- What are your parameters used for backup operations (block size,...).
I assume that you use cpio (you said cipo)?!

JUST TO MAKE SURE: you're not backing up Informix chunks within your file system, right?
