Recently it crashed when I ran update statistics with PDQ anabled mode.(During this process it was dynamically allocating memory and it crashed when it tries to go beyond 1896MB). The server got 4GB physical memory running on LINUX 2.4.9-e.3smp kernal on a DELL POWEREDGE 6650 machine with 4 Pentium ZEON processors. We started to experience issues when we tried to allocate more memory to Informix after some upgrades on our 4GL programs. We have been using 750MB for informix for quite a sometime and there were no issues until end of June. (We had 2GB RAM at that time.) Then we increased the shared memory beyond 750MB.If I leave the server to run more than 24 hours the whole server freezes. We can see through cat /proc/meminfo that its "LOW FREE" memory is going down and server won't free it and eventually that leads to the freezing. Thinking that it could be not enough RAM* we increased it to 4GB in August and then tried to allocate more for Informix. The problem persists after that as well,* and we are now compelled to restart the whole server every morning. Some with considerable LINUX knowledge suggested that we should upgrade the kernal.That means we need to upgrade the INFORMIX as well. Isn't it?? Strange thing is if I set Informix shared memory to more than 1896MB through onconfig then it won't start. It will dump the sharedmemory with an ASSERTION failure message. This happened yeasterday when I tried to increase it. It works when the shared memory is less than 1896MB. My guess is that this is happening because of LINUX is buggy or my be it's a bug with the INFORMIX version itself. I simply don't know which one is buggy or both or may be some serious Informix configuration issue(Which I really doubt-) Normally it runs smoothly after rebooting. I am sending the server shared memory dumps for both recent crashes.Any help in this regard highly appreciated. I have been working with INFORMIX IDS and havn't come across anything like this before. I am willing to provide any other info. if you need...
