Lead Informix Database Administrator (DBA) Job Summary CIDC, a Cambridge/Massachusetts based company is seeking an experienced Lead Informix DBA to help build and manage OLTP and data warehouse systems for our company and customers. The ideal candidate has several years experience administering high-volume Informix Databases under Linux or UNIX. This position involves cross training with senior Oracle DBA's supporting Oracle RAC environments. The DBA role is broad, covering architecture, troubleshooting, and daily operational activities. Database architecture includes, for example, design for high-performance and high availability, population of remote disaster recovery systems, and balancing OLTP and OLAP needs. Daily DBA activities include monitoring and managing backups and restores, loads, software releases, and ETL. The troubleshooting component of the role is critical; we are looking for someone that can diagnose a problem in a 24x7 high-performance system and get it back online. Significant programming background is desirable for ETL work. Responsibilities * Provide design input to, and implement architectures for scalable 24x7 global e-commerce environments. * Provide hands-on technical expertise running a RDBMS environment on Unix/Linux. * Provide on-call support for troubleshooting systems issues. * Analyze system performance and tune/modify Informix database and systems where necessary. * Migrate code, schema changes, etc. through release process, staging, and into production * Develop and implement: o Procedures for monitoring, backup/recovery and control functions. o Solutions for disaster recovery planning and testing. o Security and system administration strategies. * Design/build/populate corporate decision support environments. * Cross train with Oracle DBA's to support Oracle RAC environments. Requirements * 8+ years experience with a large-scale Informix Databases design and administration. * Willingness to learn new skills and technologies if required for the job on-hand or for a given project. * Expertise in large-scale (>1TB) backup and restore operations. * Expertise in database volume management, system tuning, and performance tuning. * Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and UNIX. Linux experience a plus. * Secure computing practices. * Programming in languages such as Perl or C. Superb shell scripting abilities. * Familiarity with software development tools and environment (make utilities, source code control, etc.). * Ability/willingness to be part of a 24/7 call rotation. * Good written communications skills and strong command of English. * 4-year technical degree. Technical Master's degree is ideal.
