Job Summary

CIDC, a Cambridge/Massachusetts based company is seeking an
experienced Lead Informix DBA to help build and manage OLTP and data
warehouse systems for our company and customers. The ideal candidate
has several years experience administering high-volume Informix
Databases under Linux or UNIX. This position involves cross training

Daily DBA activities include monitoring and managing backups and
restores, loads, software releases, and ETL. The troubleshooting
component of the role is critical; we are looking for someone that can
diagnose a problem in a 24x7 high-performance system and get it back
online. Significant programming background is desirable for ETL work.

Responsibilities

* Provide design input to, and implement architectures for scalable
24x7 global e-commerce environments.
* Provide hands-on technical expertise running a RDBMS environment on
Unix/Linux.
* Provide on-call support for troubleshooting systems issues.
* Analyze system performance and tune/modify Informix database and
systems where necessary.
* Migrate code, schema changes, etc. through release process, staging,
and into production
* Develop and implement:
o Procedures for monitoring, backup/recovery and control functions.
o Solutions for disaster recovery planning and testing.
o Security and system administration strategies.
* Design/build/populate corporate decision support environments.
* Cross train with Oracle DBA's to support Oracle RAC environments.

Requirements

* 8+ years experience with a large-scale Informix Databases design and
administration.
* Willingness to learn new skills and technologies if required for the
job
on-hand or for a given project.
* Expertise in large-scale (>1TB) backup and restore operations.
* Expertise in database volume management, system tuning, and
performance tuning.
* Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and UNIX. Linux experience a plus.
* Secure computing practices.
* Programming in languages such as Perl or C. Superb shell scripting
abilities.
* Familiarity with software development tools and environment (make
utilities, source code control, etc.).
* Ability/willingness to be part of a 24/7 call rotation.
* Good written communications skills and strong command of English.
* 4-year technical degree. Technical Master's degree is ideal.

Characteristics

* Strong team player.
* Flexibility to perform various other technical tasks as needed.
* Ability to thrive in a 24x7 global environment.
* Prefers informal, small company environment.
