Problems faced: Oracle will be slower, and will require a small platoon to administer. Surely you're thinking about DB2, like all other Informix customers ....? |

| Not to be too pedantic, but surely you intend, "...like some other Informix customers...?", not so? I have consulted on a number of Informix to Oracle, and Oracle to Informix projects and would be glad to help ... but you can't just ask open ended questions and expect anything useful. First ... purchase a copy of Tom Kyte's book "Expert one-on-one Oracle" and carefully read the first three chapters. Next bookmark http://tahiti.oracle.com ... it is the best single source there is. Of course you can also bookmark http://www.psoug.org and click on Morgan's Library for a lot of concept demos But the most important single thing to remember is that except at a superficial level the architecture of Informix and Oracle are very different and you will not be successful in Oracle with a simple migration. Got specific questions I'll be happy to address them but it would probably be better, and more on-topic, to do so at comp.databases.oracle.server. HTH -- Daniel A. I don't understand what you're trying to say. Do you mean that I should have said "Surely you're thinking about DB2, like some other Informix customers ....?" rather than "Surely you're thinking about DB2, like all other Informix customers ....?"? |

| Sorry, I should have been clearer. Especially, as I was also trying to "play" on your user name. :-) Yes, you have interpreted my intent correctly. (Our shop will also be leaving Informix and embracing Oracle.) In that case the slopped-on irony of my original statement ("Surely you're thinking about DB2, like all other Informix customers?") has sailed over your head and I therefore declare that you must be American! |

| Yes, completely over the head. The slopping-on of irony, suggests you may be P.G. Wodehouse in disguise, or, at least British. :-) "Captain Pedantic" <theharlequin36@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:2ofcm3Fa2g8tU1@uni-berlin.de... > > "Captain Pedantic" <theharlequin36@hotmail.com> wrote in message > > news:2od8gaF922pfU1@uni-berlin.de... > > > > "Captain Pedantic" <theharlequin36@hotmail.com> wrote in message > > > > news:2ochhdF9c57jU1@uni-berlin.de... > > > > > "Madhury" <madhury_chennuri@infosys.com> wrote in message > > > > > news:8fcd9739.0408160142.50c6bca2@posting.google.c om... > > > > > > Surely you're thinking about DB2, like all other Informix customers > > > ....? > > > "David E.
