| We are currently using IDS 7.31 and ontape. Current box RS6000 F80 w/ internal 20/40 tape drive for full & level 0 backup & external 20/40 tape drive for continuous logs We are looking to purchase a p615 which will have a 60/120 internal & 20/40 external tape drive. The p615 only comes w/ a 60/120 internal and we plan to use the F80 as a disaster recovery box. Therefore it has been suggested we upgrade the external tape drive on the F80 to a 60/120. On the p615, we will use the 60/120 for the full & level 0 and a 20/40 external for the continuous logs. To restore on the D/R box (F80), we were wondering if ontape-r can handle to restore from two different devices???? Thanks, Carlie |

| Have I missed something? Is this an Informix question at all? Surely it depends upon whether the 60/120 device (presumably the newer model) is backward-compatible with the 20/40 device: ie can it read tapes created by a 20/40? | You should be OK as long as the tapes a compatible Carlie wrote: > > We are currently using IDS 7.31 and ontape. > > Current box RS6000 F80 w/ internal 20/40 tape drive for full & level 0 > backup & external 20/40 tape drive for continuous logs > > We are looking to purchase a p615 which will have a 60/120 internal & 20/40 > external tape drive. | So... if they are compatible and I am told they are.. When I do a restore (ontape - r) Can I restore my level 0 from the 60/120 and then do the cont. logical log restore on the same 60/120 device? (the 60/120 will read the 20/40 tape) Is it smart enough to switch gears in the same job & recongize the two different tapes from the same device? Hope this makes sense. | I'd expect that as long as the TAPE configs in the onconfig are the same it should be fine.. However I had a HP gotcha the other day, HP DD3 tape for the archive and on another machine a HP DD4 restore, this failed everytime. According to HP they are compatible:-) Cheers Paul Carlie wrote: > > So... if they are compatible and I am told they are.. > > When I do a restore (ontape - r) Can I restore my level 0 > from the 60/120 and then do the cont. logical log restore on the > same 60/120 device?
