.... under the premise that you also switch from a 32-bit IDS to
a 64-bit version of IDS.
With that the shared memory of IDS can then become bigger
(way beyond 4 GB), which is usually used for a bigger buffer
pool, which in turn means you may need less I/O and can
balance the necessary I/O better over time (no more foreground
or checkpoint burst I/O). So that than really translates into
better performance. Of course you need the memory physically
for all this to come true.
