Whenever username & password are supplied in a connection(be it through
ODBC or any other connectivity tool),
they have to be a valid username-password combination on the server
machine. Putting in other words, if a user exists on both client & server
machine,
and the passwords are different, the server machine password has to be
supplied during connection.

Side note: A connection can also be made without specifying username &
password.
In this circumstance, the concept of trusted machine, trusted user or
sqlhosts settings come into picture.

My ODBC drivers for Informix are unable to resolve the password for my
Informix user 'informix'.

This is the default user who is an Win OS-level user. If the change
the password of the user does this conflict with the database's
ability to authenticate the user?

Also can we create users at Win OS level and assign them to either
Informix-Admin or IX-USERS? Can these users access the informix server
by suplying their OS level passwords?

pls help

Thanks
