| Aww Timmy, C'mon. CPIO was the rage for doing system back ups. cpio -icvdumB ring a bell? Naw, you never did play around much as a Sun OS admin. ;-) Meaning RFTM as in read the man pages on cpio. Piece of cake. Or are you only able to grok a point and click interface? BTW, this is a BETA! Maybe IBM did this as part of a test. If you're not smurt enough to unpackage the beta, then maybe you shouldn't be running it? ;-) C'mon get with the program and quit your whinning ya panzy arse git! But hey what do I know? Being a Sys Admin just paid for my 5th year in college. -G >Tar is no problem. | Actually, the Informix beta came in tar format ya git. ;-) It's the ISA that comes in cpio. And yes, I can used cpio --help to gimme options. But that of course is not the point. Now why would a tool like ISA come in cpio? In the grand scheme of things there are better ways to provide an installation, install shield, java installers, etc. cpio is not what I'd recommend simply because it's completely unnecessary to do it that way, and there are plenty of examples out there. If there is some reason why please let me know. This would be probably my first application on Linux requiring a direct use of cpio--and if I'm not mistaken, RPM is using cpio internally, but masked from the user. Incidentally, IBM duplicated my issue with the failure of the httpd portion of the installation, which is the main problem at this point. I expect there will be a new version out shortly with a corrected cpio. It would be best to distribute it as at least a tar but I know that's asking too much at this point. And as David alluded to, if the distribution is too large for tar, then split it up, and distribute it in pieces. If the application is so huge, that it requires special handling, then maybe it needs to be reconsidered as maybe having the wrong approach as an application. I can't think of a single other application on Linux using cpio. -t- Ian Michael Gumby wrote: > > Aww Timmy, > > C'mon. > CPIO was the rage for doing system back ups. > cpio -icvdumB ring a bell? > > Naw, you never did play around much as a Sun OS admin. ;-) > > Meaning RFTM as in read the man pages on cpio. | Just a follow up on ISA... I got it installed, after a little adjusting to some missing library links on the system. It's onweb from what? 10 years ago! Total crap! I'll have it uninstalled shortly. All that for nothing!
