This is a multipart message in MIME format.

There is definitely specific media for Express. The version will be
slightly different.
For example 10.00.TC2E instead of 10.00.TC2.

Thanks,

I've got a customer who wants to eval IDS 10.0 Express to make sure it
does
all he needs.

All I can find on PA or on the "Informix" webiste trial downloads is IDS
10
enterprise edition. Does anyone know (haven't yet got through to anyone
at
IBM who would know the product set in enough detail to follow the
question)
whether there is specific media for Express? Or, as with previous
Workgroup
releases, there is no separate media for Express as such, and that the
restictions are effected on an "honour" basis?

Thanks and regards

the version number may be different but is the oninit binary different
between these to version numbers?

as a solution, why not get them to evaluate the software from of the
trials an beta site but don't use what they are not allowed to use.

then when they accept that its OK, order the express product

I've had conflicting answers to this: a couple of the Informix pre-sales
experts in the UK have said that there must be separate media because of the
different version numbers, whereas our IBM distributor reckons that although
there's a separate PA part number the associated media is identical between
Enterprise and Express.

To answer your question: obviously you and I know exactly what the
defintions of the various restricted functions are, but users are not
necesarily so switched on,and this user wants to see for huimself that his
operation will not be impaired by trying it for himself. I can understand
him wanting to take that approach.

Have raised a query with UK Tech Support who has told us our "account
manager" will arrange it for us, and we're trying to work out what he
means - possibly our Business Partner Manager, although as a reseller
ourselves we wouldn't normally (or in fact ever) go to her with media
requests.

I knew this wouldn't be straightforward, but it's worth to getting to the
bottom of ...

Thanks and regards
Neil

Yes, there are minor but important differences (if that isn't
contradictory) between the enterprise and express versions of IDS.

The core functionality is the same - the disk layout is identical.
