Gil,

We were ok to help you have your 4gl app work with SQL Server, as it relates
to an Informix product (4GL). Now, you clearly ask for something that we do
not want to debate here.

Why the hell would you want to migrate?

Wait a minute,

You guys have been most helpful to me in the past, and I have appreciated
the open exchange of information on the group.

So, why are you so upset by this fellows question?

If IFX is a superior product, you should be encouraging this guy to do what
he's doing in the hopes that folks will see that IFX does some things much
better than SQL Server.

I didn't think there was an "accepted topic" list here.

I work on Oracle, Pervasive, SQL Server, Sybase and Informix, and embrace
the relative strengths and weaknesses of each.

BTW, who said that you speak for everyone on the group when you say "we do
not want to debate here".

Pretty arrogant if you ask me, and that kind of attitude doesn't exactly
server to spread the good news about what a strong product Informix really
is.

Just my 2 cents. Hope my post isn't "banned" because I mentioned other
RDBMS.

Tam.

I couldn't agree more with your post.

This product is on a respirator, waiting to die. It needs all the help
it can get. In fact I'm guessing ( a stretch here :-) that there will be
no new product launches or announcements till after the first of next
year for Informix. The last whimpering gasp leaked to one of the trade
rags last week about "cheetah" created zero buzz like nothing. It's just
a bunch of nothing. Until there is some kind of serious marketing it's
80% of IBM's time with Informix to do nothing and only cater to the top
20% who are actually using the product, just to maintain fluid cash flow
on renewals and paltry if-any new sales. It's not about new sales but
simply keeping it alive. This is why you don't see any application
announcements about XYZ company writing apps for Informix--it's not going
to happen!

bwhahahahhahahahahaahhahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

:-)
