| Mark, Don't you think that it would be best if IBM were to query the machine for type of CPU, number of CPUs (I believe that the OS will recognize the core as a seperate CPU), and the amount of available memory? You could then either query the user during the install process as to how many cpus they want to allocate, the amount of memory, etc ... and then create your base configuration from that? That way your "out of the box" will be a good approximation. >From: Mark Jamison <majp51@yahoo.com> >To: informix-list@iiug.org >Subject: Out of Box Experience for Cheetah. >Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2007 11:13:20 -0700 (PDT) >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Received: from perform.iiug.org ([216.177.38.211]) by >bay0-mc10-f9.bay0.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.2668); Fri, >16 Mar 2007 11:13:55 -0700 >Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1])by perform.iiug.org >(Postfix) with ESMTP id 061DA9392;Fri, 16 Mar 2007 13:13:41 -0500 (EST) >Received: from perform.iiug.org ([127.0.0.1])by localhost (perform.iiug.org >[127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024)with ESMTP id 1oajdE4LxATB; Fri, 16 >Mar 2007 13:13:34 -0500 (EST) >Received: by perform.iiug.org (Postfix, from userid 60001)id 1DEAFA1B5; >Fri, 16 Mar 2007 13:13:34 -0500 (EST) >Received: from perform.iiug.org (localhost [127.0.0.1])by perform.iiug.org >(Postfix) with ESMTP id 14EFDA194;Fri, 16 Mar 2007 13:13:30 -0500 (EST) >Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1])by perform.iiug.org >(Postfix) with ESMTP id BDEBBA14Bfor <informix-list@iiug.org>; Fri, 16 Mar >2007 13:13:27 -0500 (EST) >Received: from perform.iiug.org ([127.0.0.1])by localhost (perform.iiug.org >[127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024)with ESMTP id XZsWbCZIeDdK for ><informix-list@iiug.org>;Fri, 16 Mar 2007 13:13:24 -0500 (EST) >Received: by perform.iiug.org (Postfix, from userid 60001)id 32EFDA194; >Fri, 16 Mar 2007 13:13:24 -0500 (EST) >Received: from web51607.mail.re2.yahoo.com >(web51607.mail.re2.yahoo.com[206.190.38.212])by perform.iiug.org (Postfix) >with SMTP id E4366A14Bfor <informix-list@iiug.org>; Fri, 16 Mar 2007 >13:13:20 -0500 (EST) >Received: (qmail 78277 invoked by uid 60001); 16 Mar 2007 18:13:20 -0000 >Received: from [129.33.49.251] by web51607.mail.re2.yahoo.com via HTTP;Fri, >16 Mar 2007 11:13:20 PDT >X-Message-Info: >LsUYwwHHNt201W3YoB0EHAyVOsBpBvKA4TrLGATdQj3U3Pgy8 NcWIkhXWlhUP5dE >X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at iiug.org >X-Original-To: informix-list@iiug.org >Delivered-To: informix-list@iiug.org >X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at iiug.org >X-Greylist: domain auto-whitelisted by SQLgrey-1.7.4 >DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; >d=yahoo.com;h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:X-Mailer >X-YMail-OSG: >aaENUBEVM1lKn72JRuEm5ebUfWdprBI1ktdV1s2aSIMmixZzK tLuwArXY4v2k9H4F8TMnpDnNmny_wXBo4zX2fEnZWZiEamKiD7 k7A.A2qqm3zdti6p2KA-- >X-Mailer: YahooMailRC/471 YahooMailWebService/0.7.41.4 >X-BeenThere: informix-list@iiug.org >X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.6 >Precedence: list >List-Id: "comp.databases.informix" <informix-list.iiug.org> >List-Unsubscribe: ><http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list>,<mailto:informix-list-request@iiug.org?subject=unsubscribe> >List-Archive: <http://www.iiug.org/pipermail/informix-list> >List-Post: <mailto:informix-list@iiug.org> >List-Help: <mailto:informix-list-request@iiug.org?subject=help> >List-Subscribe: ><http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list>,<mailto:informix-list-request@iiug.org?subject=subscribe> >Errors-To: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org >Return-Path: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org >X-OriginalArrivalTime: 16 Mar 2007 18:13:55.0361 (UTC) >FILETIME=[DBFAC910:01C767F6] > >Hi All, > >As part of the Cheetah experience IBM is working towards improving the Out >of Box experience.
