| And then of course it bounces so I have to wait until I get home to send it. This whole spam thing is beginning to p*ss me off. Not only do I have to wade through miles of spam and delete the obvious viruses, but it has reached a point where half of the mail I send or half of the mail which is sent to me winds up in a spam collection bucket somewhere - some of it never to be seen again - because it is suspect or the person you are replying to has chosen to protect themselves from spam harvesting like Arnaud here. We need to go after the spammers. Castration is too good for them, perhaps drawing and quartering might be better. They have ruined the internet. =============================== Arnaud, Replying from work, via webmail, so the reply doesn't work as well as my normal mail reader. Look for "-" in front of where I wrote. Sorry - should have been more careful. The rownum is, of course, not there in Informix, but you could add a serial column to the table entitled 'rownum', and it will serve the same function. Jack Parker" wrote > > Specific to your question - if state is a valid column, the same methodology > should work. Well i was pretty sure it was possible, bt i don't figure out on how to code this .... The rownum need to be replace... but i don't know how to deal with. Maybe with a "first" clause, but i cannot succeed in having correct code. >But if you are trying to update a large table in Informix - > why slow yourself down with Oracle-OLTP methodology? I suggest you read: > http://www-106.ibm.com/developerwork...502parker.html > Wow ! A must read... (when i look at our performances... :-/ ) But in fact the problem is not only Database answer times based. But processes too... If i read to quickly the database (that contains data for query ) Ours processes are going to use 100% machine time for a while.... ==== Quick description: Our processes read a table and each rows contains data that permit to launch an action (or many actions) Then it can take for 1s to 5s working time (or more) with accessing or not to the database. So if i read 1000 at the same time: it can take for 15 min to more than an hour to complete the Job. ==== - can you describe what the application does? Maybe I could offer a suggestion if I understood it better. > Although I've only advertised it about 1200 times on this group - OTOH, I > wrote it so I wouldn't have to walk through it 1200 times. sorry for that.... and thk you for taking time to post it once again ...and maybe again and again and again ..... - I just meant that I've probably flooded the market - people are probably tired of my mentioning the article. Thk you for your answer, i will try to find how to write this query. Must be easy , but at this point .... i do not know Thk you once again for the article ! Arnaud PS: Just a little request ... Is there a lot of user of ESQLC ?? - At one time it was fairly popular, I don't see a lot of people using it anymore. Regards (a bientot), Jack Parker sending to informix-list |

That maybe not only the "spam things" that was responsible of all of this (Communication business play a big role in it ... web page take "hours" for loading now because a latence time of the advert server.) All thoses data sended to you , returned to the ad. sended back , ect.ect..... Anyway... Internet is no more like it used to be.... but that the evolution ===================================== > Arnaud, > > Replying from work, via webmail, so the reply doesn't work as well as my > normal mail reader. Well i can't touch the schema of the database.... I think i will write a C function, or me be a procedure that will intercept the thing.... Yes, I will think of that <cut> - can you describe what the application does? Maybe I could offer a suggestion if I understood it better. Well , that an warehouse management While the database is update by one task. Another one is tracking the state (trigger ,and all thoses things) and then read the table and start packing, preparing, etc..... all warehouse needed. 1) task one => update states in many row that's asking to task two to take care of these and start work on it. 2)when task two finish => task one know that and restart to update data when there is some time machine to work with it. => the table updated can contain many many rows. I think , that i need to rewrite a part of this code , for any databases instead of trying to make informix deal with it. > > > Although I've only advertised it about 1200 times on this group - OTOH, I > > wrote it so I wouldn't have to walk through it 1200 times. > > sorry for that.... and thk you for taking time to post it once again ....and > maybe again and again and again ..... > > - I just meant that I've probably flooded the market - people are probably > tired of my mentioning the article. I swear, first time i'd heard about > - At one time it was fairly popular, I don't see a lot of people using it > anymore. that's what i guessed ... sadly for me |

Since French people (like me people that have "english sounded" name (i have absolutly no idea if this expression is valid I can suppress with no remorse all the mail saying that : "my photo has arrived" (i have had so many photo made for the past 10 years that somebody must have interest in taking picture of me. I have certainly missed a lot of "job" , or money .... while deleting these english or russian mails ... but anyway .. No virus for past 10 years , (i admit that my job adress is protected by firewall and antivirus) ... no spam on my "paranoïd" mail adresses... (do not try to send a mail to my private adress as Jack mention it it's against spam and i have NO mail adress on yahoo's database.) Personnal adresses are not protected ... But Outlook express is not used ... (i think that this one is responsible for the spam ...) The only mail adresses that was "mail bombed" is my web site mail adress, which i close definitly The last virus i have got was on amiga 15 years ago... And that was not by mail.. Anyway , maybe a little out of topic ... But it's only one more messages contributing to the internet traffic. That's it ! Bye |

Do you delete any email from Wynne??? Because I'm > still waiting for the reply to the proposal I sent you!!! I don't. know many Wynnes, so it could be a bit borderline. There *was* a guy called Wynne Hooper who used to play for Aldershot in the 1970s. His only trick was a sort of dummy back-heel before trying to take the ball around the defender. Once you'd seen it you'd seen it, so he could be devestating in the first five minutes, after which he'd spend the remainder of the game being kicked up into the stand. What was the subject? Did you write to me about "anti-aging"? Because I've never quite worked out what "aging" is, and why I should be anti it. Is it like "ageing"? |
