You are going to have to speak to (horror of horrors) an IBM person, in Tech Support or Sales. Or give up on the customer on whose behalf you're trying to obtain the unobtainable. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2007.0826 -- http://dbi.perl.org/ |

I deleted that part of the "comprehensive media library" at the same time that I threw out all my V2000 video tapes, my dictaphone, my phonograph and my IIUG instructions for spindle balancing for IDS. Also, the person to whom the Sept 2005 comment was addressed has Seen The Light and is now a loyal Ardenta customer! Will Morgan Stanley be next? Or are you still stuck in the Dark Ages .... ;-) In fact, I hope to persuade the SE customer to upgrade to IDS, as there's a promotion on for so doing at present. But I'm going to look a complete arse if I turn up on their site unable even to get the SE media to show how easy the upgrade is ... |

Thanks to Goradz, and to Cats for pointing out where the media is freely available for download. I've visited the customer who has an elderly green-screen 4GL-on-Standard-Engine system. Strategically they are moving away from Informix. What benefits, other than the ability to take online backups, can I offer them to move to IDS? Thx Neil |

Of the above I guess Online Archiving is the only one really likely to appeal. A useful list for other, bigger, more committed-to-IBM sites though, so thanks for that. |

Great for getting corrupt indexes that do not match the data, also a great way to get duplicate values in a unique index. Online does Fast Recovery when it starts and so recovers from a machine crash gracefully. Online checks page timestamps to ensure what is read is consistent and has not been corrupted. |
