Waiting for a response from server 'Database_Name' / IDS slow

Solaris 2.6, IDS 7.3.1.UC4, Ultra 10 440Mhz with 512Mb RAM

Using an application to export some data from its database (IDS) and getting
lots of messages: Waiting for response from server 'Database_name'
(where Database_name is my database).

This database is only about 2gb - I left it running overnight to extract
the data out and it was still running this morning.

The oninit process on the IDS server shot right up in terms of CPU usage
using 80-90% constantly.

Any advice please?
