Default A1000 or 5200 disk array on E4500?

Hi,

I am currently looking at attaching some RAID disk to our E4500.

The A1000 is a hardware RAID system but uses a SBUS card in the E4500.
The 5200 uses a GBIC card added to the E4500 and is Software Raid ( Veritas)

Can anyone suggest advantages/disadvantages for both systems?

I am mainly worried about the performance of software RAID.

The data stored would be a mixture of Large ( 1-2GB) and small 300K files.
There is NO Database system in use.

The applications accessing the data are Matlab/Synopsys/Eldo/Xilinx.

I have already obtained pricing and the 5200 option is actually 100UKP
cheaper!!!
This is with a full A1000 and a half full 5200.

Any help gratefully appreciated,

Mark

Hey Mark,

i think it's better you have a look for the 3310 / 3350 - storages.
The 3310 is for SCSI and the 3350 for FC. Both with RAID-Controller.
A1000 and 5200 are older and there EOL is reached.

Hope to help you.

Unfortunately these are not easily supported on a E4500, esp if
you use a Solaris release < 8. My vote goes to a Refurbished
T3ES pair with two years of included gold service from a Sun reseller.

They are pretty cheap AND performs well AND are supported on the E4500.

Use the A5200 they are a matched set You can get a A5200 with 22 73 gig
FC-AL disks for $14k. Sun is still selling this for over $100k This will
give you 1.6TB of storage.
Call me if you have any Questions.
Thanks
