| Hello, I do not understand cable pin outs well, so please bear with me I have several Ultras and Enterprise systems here using a RJ45 to DB9 connector to talk to my annex serial port server. Recently I inherited two Sun Netra240's, but the console port is an RJ45 connector. My problem is that I now have to make an RJ45 to RJ45 connector so I can talk to the annex serial port server. I've seen several diagrams out there, but my limited knowledge is causing me to make lot of worthless cables. Does anyone know what the pinout should be for a Sun Netra240 to an Annex? This is the old XYLogics annex, later renamed RA2000. If you know the pinout could you post it so I could understand (in my limited hardware abilities)....maybe something like: RJ45 - RJ45 1 - 3 2 - 4 etc.... All the DTR, CTS stuff just makes my head hurt....thanks |

If you're lucky, this may work, as it does on some terminal servers. |

If you're lucky, this may work, as it does on some terminal > servers. It won't. I don't have a diagram any longer, but I made a *lot* of cables for Annex devices. The modern Sun/Cisco cable has a nice property of being reflexive. TX/RX are on a reflected pin set (4 and 5 I think). Not so on the annex. I had to mark one end of the cables because they weren't reflexive. Googling for Annex pinout finds this page: http://www.meadow.net/pinouts.html I don't remember the 2000, but I wonder if that's the MicroAnnex? Then hoping that the "Cisco Console" is the DTE version with the same wiring used on Suns, you get this section: ---- Cisco Console RJ45 to MicroAnnex: Cisco RJ45-8pin: Standard Data cable crimp (see above) Annex RJ45-8pin: 3 Yellow or Gr/Wh 5 Black or Wh/Gr 6 Red or Bl/Wh 1-2,4,7-8 can be connected as usual with no harm. The ends are sensitive; you *must* plug the Cisco end into the Cisco, and the Annex end into the Annex. ---- That would be where I start. -- Darren Dunham ddunham@taos.com Senior Technical Consultant TAOS http://www.taos.com/ Got some Dr Pepper? There is extensive info about all kinds of Annex serial connections. |
