Did the design of the low-noise kit for Ultra 60 change?

Bit of an odd question I know!!!

I bought a low-noise kit from Sun many years ago for the first of three
U60's I owned. I found it pretty ineffective.

Today I got another Ultra 60 and found it seems actually quite usable.
On hears the fans spin up fas, then slow, then finally the disks come
into action. I must admit it is hard to say if the disk noise is greater
than the fan noise before they slowed. But it does not seem quite as
useless as the other one I had.

I'm just wondering if Sun changed the design, and so some are better
than others.
