Default Enterprise E5000 pricing

Hi, what's an E5k worth these days ?

Is it still a worthwhile machine or is it too old
these days ?

A friend has one for sale.

depend what is in it.

This depends on what you are going to with them. You can buy a EXX00 on
ebay for anywhere $200-$800 these days. A friend bought one for GBP 500.
Any more and you are paying too much (8x400Mhz, 4GB etc.). The problems
with these huge machines is their size, heat production and electricity
consumption. You'll end up paying anywhere from $50-$100 (CAD) a month to
run it 24/7. In 1-2 years, the cost of running such a beast would outwiegh
the costs of acquiring it.

Thanks to sun's stupidity, I can't check the BTU or power consumption
right now, but sufficient to say...running a E5k is like running a small
heater/grilling oven/microwave 24/7.

Hope that helps.

Even with a contract, I can't find that information for E5k. Maybe it's too
early in morning, maybe it's hidden somewhere ...

I think the E3k/4k/5k were some of the systems that were put into the
handbook before things like that were fully documented on the specs
page that one sees in the handbook for newer things. I'm willing to
bet that looking at the heat and power requirements for an E5500
(which IIRC should be available) would give the OP a ballpark figure.

thanks for idea. So 5500 is 12000 BTU/h

So that's about 3.5 kW. Ouch! I think I'd need to run that only on night
rate, and only during winter.

And don't forget you need to run it at 208 or 220V (if you are in
N.America), 110V is not enough.

Speaking of BTUs, is there some way to convert BTUs to some more usual
units like KW etc?

I had problems here (in Canada) typing to figure out what fuse I need for
e.g. 8500 BTU A/C unit.

British termal unit, ha!

Trying to figure out, it should have been, but it seems I have problems
with typing as well.
