| Hi, I have problems with Exabyte Magnum 1x7 LTO autoloader with one IBM LTO2 tape drive on an E420R running Solaris 8. It is connected to a LVD SCSI card (option X6758A), sgen driver is configured and I have even installed some software (libTool and ltoTool) for Solaris from Exabyte to control the loader and the tape drive (their equivalent of mtx and mt commands). After rebooting, there are entries in /dev/scsi/changer: bash-2.03# ls -l /dev/scsi/changer/ total 2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 58 May 31 13:01 c4t0d0 -> ../../../devices/pci@1f,4000/pci@4/scsi@4/sgen@0,0:changer and both mtx and libTool have no problems reading status: bash-2.03# /usr/local/sbin/mtx -f /dev/scsi/changer/c4t0d0 status Storage Changer /dev/scsi/changer/c4t0d0:1 Drives, 7 Slots ( 0 Import/Export ) Data Transfer Element 0:Empty Storage Element 1:Full :VolumeTag= Storage Element 2:Full :VolumeTag= Storage Element 3:Full :VolumeTag= Storage Element 4:Full :VolumeTag= Storage Element 5:Full :VolumeTag= Storage Element 6:Empty:VolumeTag= Storage Element 7:Empty:VolumeTag= bash-2.03# libTool /dev/scsi/changer/c4t0d0 -l libTool V1.62 - (c) 2002-2004 Exabyte Corp. /dev/scsi/changer/c4t0d0 - Device recognised as Exabyte Magnum 1x7 /dev/scsi/changer/c4t0d0 - Retrieving library content... Does anyone have a clue what is going on here? Is this a "too new HW for my software problem" or is this a HW problem? The tape is in a remote location (few hundreds kilometers away) and I can't go there to manipulate it directly. Thanks in advance and bye, Dragan -- Dragan Cvetkovic, To be or not to be is true. G. Got a solution from Exabyte customer support: During shipment of the Magnum 1x7 2U, there may be enough shock and vibration to cause the Load Lock on the LTO drive to move into the set position. If the Magnum 1x7 2U library is at firmware level V1B004, it may fail to load a cartridge into the drive. This will show up as a failure to move tape into the drive on the first tape load. Updating the library firmware to V1B006 will fix this problem. With V1B006 firwmware, the library picker will load a tape into the LTO drive even if its Load Lock is in the set position. After the first successful tape load and unload, the LTO Load Lock will be in the correct (open) position. Updated the firmware and the drive suddenly started working. Funny.
