According to the headers:
NNTP-Posting-Host: 24.1.230.120
which, according to whois, belong to
Comcast Cable Communications, IP Services EASTERNSHORE-1 (NET-24-0-0-0-1)
24.0.0.0 - 24.15.255.255
Comcast Cable Communications TEXAS-8 (NET-24-0-0-0-2)
24.0.0.0 - 24.1.255.255

so probably somewhere is USA.

But you knew all this, didn't you?

Would any of those work in an Ultra-2? I saw in the Sun docs where a
maximum of 2 9.1GB scsi HD's would work. But theoretically, any size
should work, right, since scsi has no size limitation. I just
discovered that a 1.6" Seagate drive will not fit in an Ultra-2.

Not sure about these particular ones but I have an Ultra1 here with a 50GB
Seagate full height drive in it's bottom slot.

Cheers

Alex

Hmmm. I suppose some metal retainers could be removed in the Ultra-2,
allowing the drive to fit. I might have to use a bandsaw, however.
Well, it looks like some of the metal retainers are rivoted to the
bottom of the case. I really would like to get this thing to fit.

I've never owned an U2 but the U1 has one large slot and one small slot so a
full height drive will fit.

I guess when they designed the U2 1/2 height was the norm...

Alex

Looks that way. The U2 has two side-by-side 1/2-height slots. Too bad
the U2 doesn't have a full-height slot. I do have a 9.1GB Seagate as
well, so maybe I can use the 9.1GB and the 18.2 in some sort of external
RAID enclosure. The 9.1GB fits, but isn't recognized by the U2, partly
because it lacks a force single-ended jumper. So maybe I can use both
of them after all.

<pedant>
Actually, I believe the 1.6" high disks are the 1/2 height. The full
height were the older 5-1/4" wide SCSI disks that were 3.5" (or so) high.
I think there were also some 4" (same form factor as 3.5" floppy) SCSI
disks that were full height of 3.5" (monsters!). I'm not sure what they
call the 1" high SCSI disks that are used in Ultra2s. Are they 1/3 height?
I usually duck that question by referring to them as 1" high.
</pedant>

Yes you could find some 611 unipack or 711 multipack (6-drive or 12-drive)
on eBay. They are really quite cheap these days. I think I've seen 711s go
for something as low as US$30 + shipping? I like the 711s myself.

The 1" high disks are called 'low profile', and are indeed shorter than
'half-height'.
