Default Harddrive question for Sparc 10

Hi !

I have a Sparc station 10 with a seagate ST11200N "1 Gb"

Is it posible to add "pc/scsi" hd to sparc 10 or do i need a "SUN HD" ?

If yes: Any other problem with boot prom or other ?

You can put pretty much any fast-narrow drive in there. It doesn't
have to be Sun labeled. No boot prom issues, unless you put a
real monster in. Be reasonable with the size of your boot partition
and it will be OK.

I have try 4 Gb Seagate and a 14 Gb IBM.
But the boot prom did not find any HD.

There some jumper setting on the IBM.
Any sugestion for the IBM HD ?

do a stop+a then a probe-scsi all... if nothing shows up, set the scsi
disks to the corresponding ids via jumpering, then plug them back in
the correct place.

14 GB? Strange size for an SCSI HD.

Check whether the drive is jumpered for auto-spin-up.
Or do "probe-scsi-all" on the OK prompt, the INQUIRY should
cause the drive to spin up.

One thing that you might need to do -- sometimes there are issues
with LVD SCSI drives on older Sun boxes. It's often best to jumper
the drive to force it into single-ended mode. On the IBM drives, I
believe that the jumper is called "Force S/E Mode".

Also, you probably want your boot drive set to SCSI ID 3, and the
second drive set to SCSI ID 1. There are historical reasons for
this, and you can get around it, but the "disk" devalias will point
to a drive on SCSI ID 3, so if you can, it's better to boot from
SCSI ID 3.

Thx !!!
But it's not working.

I have a IBM model DDYS-T18350 scsi lvd/se 18,2 Gb disk "not 14 Gb sorry".

I have setup the jumper:
ID BIT 3
FORCS SE
ENABLE AUTO SPIN

I have also jumper setting's "but is not using this"
ID BIT 2
ID BIT 1
ID BIT 0
TERM POWER
LED OUT
DISABLE UNIT ATTN
TI SYNC NEGO
DISABLE PARITY
DELAY STRART 6/12
AUTO START DELAY

I can not se my IBM disk with probe-scsi all. :-(
The disk is working ok in a pc compaq.

Any sugestion "please".

As a question generated out of this which goes to the public, should
probe-scsi-all see all attached scsi devices independent of their
format type?

Setting that bit means that you've selected SCSI ID 8, not 3.

OK.

To set SCSI ID 3, you ID bits 0 and 1 set, and the rest unset.
If you have all those bits set, then the SS10 might be reading
it as SCSI ID 7, which it already uses as the initiator ID.

You might want to check that. Use the Sun HW reference.
