| Hi all, I'm totally newbie with sun, I have experience only with linux. I have a Sun Ultra 10 and I'm trying to install Solaris (8 or 9). Computer come without cdrom, so I plug an old cdrom. Ultra 10 recognize my cdrom or must I plug a "special" cdrom? btw, I do nothing about boot on Sun Machines; now I can see the initial screen (with alt+A), but I don't know how to boot the machine (is there a system installed?). I try 'boot cdrom' but nothing seems happen. I have also see that there is a network adapter, can I use this to do a boot? I'm totally newbie, is there a guide for install Solaris? Thanx a lot. galliva |

Any IDE CDROM configured as a slave should work fine. > btw, I do nothing about boot on Sun Machines; now I can see the initial > screen (with alt+A) When the machine is powered up, you should see OpenBoot start up. When it says "Initializing Memory", hit Stop+A on your keyboard. You should now see an "OK" prompt. Type probe-ide and report back what is output. You should see your CD drive listed. If not, check connections and try fiddling with the master/slave/cable select jumper. Assuming you do, put the Solaris 8/9 install CD in the drive and type "boot cdrom". If that doesn't work, get back to us and we'll tell you how to proceed! Cheers Alex |

In my cdrom I Put the (downloaded) Solaris 9 Installation CD, Multi-language (sol-9-u7-install-sparc.zip, 371.32 MB) > Cheers > > Alex > Thanx a lot, galliva. |

Either fix it or use boot /pci@1f,/pci@1,1/ide@3/cdrom@1,0:f -- My real address is crn (at) netunix (dot) com WARNING all messages containing attachments or html will be silently deleted.
