| Hello everyone. I hope maybe someone has a little help for me. I need to connect a old SS20 to a network with the old 10base 2 coaxial standard. I know this is a little unusual but it is for a project I am doing. Does anyone have a Sun part number for a network card that would allow me to do this. With the 10base 2 standard so old I am having trouble even finding any old parts. I know the old SS5's used this standard as the SS5 was used as a workstation for the old Cray's. On the Cray 916's they used the SS5 as the workstation networked with the old coaxial cable. Any info would help, Thank you |

You will see two connectors which look like shorter versions of the SCSI connector, one above the other. One is marked: "//" And the other: "<...>" The one which is marked "<...>" is an ethernet connection, which simply requires an adaptor to the standard AUI connector (D series 15-pin connector). You plug the adaptor into the computer's jack, and a 10Base2 transceiver into the other end of the adaptor. Most that I have seen are only a few inches of cable between the connectors, but the one which I happen to have ready to hand is closer to about four feet. It has the Sun logo molded into the AUI connector end, and both the Sun logo and the ethernet symbol "<...>" moulded into the other end, but has no moulded part number. However, on a very faint label a couple of inches from one connector is the part number: 530-2021-01 with the "-01" probably defines the length of cable. Of course, this presumes that you can find one of the transceivers, since those have been mostly replaced by 10BaseT ones, and those with built-in ethernet in the 100BaseT speed range by now. A quick eBay search discovers an M-II to AUI adaptor (four of them in one auction, actually), but noe of the unnamed earlier connector. A quick check shows that the connectors have different numbers of pins, so these won't do for you -- unless you also get an hme0 ethernet card with the M-II connector. The auction number is: 5785719456 I'll leave it to you to find hme0 cards. :-) I've also got examples of hubs with mostly 10BaseT sockets, but one 10Base2 and one AUI, and even an antique box by DEC with one 10Base2 and one AUI. Far too big for what it does, but those are some of the options. | Thanks for all the help guys, looks like I am going to be using a few different things together to get it to work. You would think old Sbus cards would be cheaper than they are. Oh well. I want to thank you all anyways, have a good holiday. Bob "Robert" <cleverbob@wowway.com> wrote in message news:h-KdnbSFSfUPHVjfRVn-iA@wideopenwest.com... > Hello everyone. They are 501 2015 and have both a SCSI and 10base2 (looks like telephone jack) How about $10.00 plus shipping for one of them. Bill K7NOM (zip 95624) |
