| I'm having some trouble getting a recently aquired Intraserver ITI-6021E combo video/dual ethernet PCI card to work in my Enterprise 450. Unfortunately, my Sun hobby (obsession) doesn't have a huge budget, so I tend to buy parts on a "good deal" only basis. I found this card on eBay for under $40. The card is based on the ATI Rage IIC chipset, and claims to work in any UltraSparc system with BootProm 3.X or higher according to the manual. I can't recall my bootprom version offhand, but I would assume by the date (1997) that it is the original version that came with the box. It is a version 3.x, though. The problem is the system will not boot with the card in the PCI slot under normal circumstances. Upon first boot, I receieved a message about being unable to open the input device via the TTY console, but no further messages were passed along. After manually setting the input and output devices via openboot to the serial console, the system would boot fine. Probing the system with a show-devs indicated that both the video and dual ethernet interfaces were detected and I assume functioning. Resetting the system with a STOP-N didn't help either; it now hangs without any message to the TTY console. Where should I go from here? Figure out how to update the bootprom? Give up and buy a PGX32? |

| You know, I didn't even think about that. I remember inspecting the box and noticing the UPA slots, not even considering buying a Creator 2D/3D. I have one of the original 300 MHz limited e450 boxes. It was all my budget can currently afford ;-) I'm going to try patching the bootprom tomorrow and see what happens.
