| Does anyone know what CPU that fits in the SPARC 20 uses the least power? Does that significantly effect power consumption from the mains supply? I'm looking to run an SS20 for a task that will require minimal CPU restorces, yet will need to be on 24/7. For obvious reasons I don't want it using loads of power. At the minute I have two machines configured (which we just taken from the top of a pile of 5 SS20's I have) both of which have dual CPUs in them - one 2x75, the other 2x125. Clearly that's not an ideal solution, but was wondering about the other CPUs. I have an SM61 somewhere hear. Is there anything likely to use significantly less power than that, or would I be saving myself next to nothing by using another CPU. I don't want to spend $$ on a CPU and carriage if it won't bring any significant benefits. Dr. David Kirkby |

I don't think the CPU will have a non-negligible effect on the total power consumption, but I guess if you want to minimise it, go for a low speed CPU with no E$. But I suspect we're talking less than 1W difference... -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc. Voice: +1 (250) 979-1638 URL: http://www.rite-online.net |
