Default LVD SCSI for Ultra 40, or should I change machines?

I was all set to buy a nice dual processor/dual core Ultra 40 to
replace our Amanda machine. But the reseller I'm talking too does not think
that there are any supported LVD SCSI cards (which I need for the LTO 3
tape drive) for this machine. Can this possibly be true?

the problem is probably that the new Ultra 40 only has PCI express and
old PCI 32Bit/33MHz slots. The regular LVD SCSI options from Sun are
PCI-X. Even LSI-Logic has currently only one adapter with PCI express.
Adaptec seems to have none, as far as I can see.

Did you consider getting a Java Workstation W2100z instead? It isn't
available with dual-core processors, but can also take 16G of ram and
there is an option for U320-SCSI, because it has PCI-X slots. If this
does not fit, I guess you won't have to wait long until there is an U320
with PCI-Express from Sun...

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, the W2100Z is the other machine I am considering. I like teh dual
processors, and the SATA drives are bigger on the Ultra 40.
